Annually OSHA Releases a Report on the TOP 10 Risks and Violations challenging Workforce Safety and Emergency Readiness.  With OSHA reporting a 15% drop in Violations for 2019 ZEE continues to support through Inspection, Training, First Aid and Safety Products delivered and maintained.

Machine Guarding (1910.212)
Violations: 1,743 in 2019 • 1,972 in 2018

Hazards generally occur in three locations: the point of operation, or the location where the machine cuts, bends or presses a material; a power take-off or power transmission device; or any other moving parts such as gears or chains.

Safeguarding is essential for protecting employees from needless and preventable injury. A good rule to remember is: Any machine part, function, or process that may cause injury must be safeguarded.

For employees that work around machinery, it is imperative that these hazardous areas are adequately guarded. There are many different types of guards that are commonly used to protect the user from the hazards associated with these locations. Fixed barrier guards, interlocking devices, light curtains, and sensors are all common methods to protect the user from hazards.

Point of Operation is the area of the machine where the machine performs work – i.e., mechanical actions that occur at the point of operation, such as cutting, shaping, boring, and forming.

Power-Transmission Apparatus is all components of the mechanical system that transmit energy, such as flywheels, pulleys, belts, chains, couplings, connecting rods, spindles, cams, and gears.

Other Moving Parts are the parts of the machine that move while the machine is operating, such as reciprocating, rotating, and transverse moving parts as well as lead mechanisms and auxiliary parts of the machine.

ZEE Medical offers inspection, recommendation and assurance in safeguarding your machines and workforce.
